Location: Milford Point Residence
Program: Home renovation design of existing home in a traditional New England coastal vernacular style of architecture. Zoning requirements dictated that the building footprint and rooflines be maintained, and coastal flood regulations required that the building be elevated to the FEMA minimum standards. The clients wished to gain maximum living space within the existing house as this will be their primary residence.
Client: A professional couple looking to create permanent residence for themselves.
Design Solution: Home Renovation Design - To maximize available floor areas all non essential interior walls were removed at the first floor, and open porches at both the front and rear of the home were enclosed. On the first floor this allowed for a defined entry on the street side, a powder room, and galley style kitchen at the back of the house. A Living Room opens out to the water with the Dining Room in an open adjacent alcove. At the second floor the Master Suite faces the Sound and a Guest Bedroom toward the street, with an office, baths, and closets clustered toward the middle of the floor plan. An oversized single car garage was rebuilt which provides for some privacy from the street and additional storage space.
